Potomac Shores is a garden-style condominium community located along Bashford Lane in Old Town North, Alexandria. Built in 1942, the community consists of traditional brick buildings containing compact one- and two-bedroom residences.
This Alexandria condominium should not be confused with the much larger Potomac Shores community in Dumfries, Virginia. Alexandria’s Potomac Shores is located within the independent City of Alexandria at addresses between approximately 402 and 418 Bashford Lane.
Potomac Shores real estate consists of single-level condominiums inside low-rise brick buildings. The community’s architecture reflects its 1940s construction, with masonry exteriors, traditional windows, and relatively simple common entrances.
Most residences contain one bedroom and one bathroom, although select two-bedroom layouts may become available. Interiors commonly include a separate or partially open kitchen, combined living and dining space, hardwood flooring, and bedroom closet storage.
Individual units have been renovated to different standards. Buyers may find updated kitchens, remodeled bathrooms, replacement windows, modern lighting, built-in shelving, and improved closet systems. A small number of residences may have received approval for in-unit laundry, but most units rely on shared laundry facilities.
Potomac Shores provides off-street surface parking in private community lots. Parking has commonly been described as open or unassigned, but buyers should verify the current registration requirements, permit rules, guest-parking procedures, and number of spaces permitted for each residence.
Many condos have access to an assigned or designated storage area. Community grounds may include lawns, mature trees, sitting areas, picnic space, and gazebos. Potomac Shores does not offer the extensive recreational amenities found in larger condominium developments, which helps preserve its smaller garden-community setting.
Monthly condominium fees have historically covered services such as heat, water, sewer, trash removal, grounds maintenance, snow removal, management, master insurance, and reserve contributions. Electricity, internet, and personal property insurance are generally separate owner expenses.
Coverage and fees can change. Buyers should review the current resale certificate, operating budget, reserve study, master insurance policy, meeting minutes, and rules before purchasing. Particular attention should be given to planned building projects, plumbing, roofs, masonry, windows, common heating systems, and laundry facilities.
Pets have been permitted subject to condominium approval and restrictions. Previous listings have referenced limits involving pet size, number, or breed. Buyers should obtain written confirmation of the current policy rather than relying on information from an older listing.
Potomac Shores is located in Old Town North, near the northern end of Alexandria’s historic district. Residents can reach restaurants, coffee shops, grocery options, parks, and neighborhood services throughout Old Town North and nearby Old Town Alexandria.
The Mount Vernon Trail and George Washington Memorial Parkway are close to the community, providing access to waterfront recreation and regional bicycle and pedestrian routes. Montgomery Park, Oronoco Bay Park, and the Potomac River waterfront are also nearby.
Additional shopping, dining, parks, and transportation can be found in Potomac Yard, North Potomac Yard, Del Ray, and Braddock Road.
Braddock Road Metro and Potomac Yard–VT Metro provide Yellow Line service. Metrobus routes operate nearby, while local streets connect the community with Route 1, the George Washington Memorial Parkway, Interstate 395, and the Capital Beltway.
Reagan National Airport, National Landing, Washington, D.C., and central Old Town are accessible from the community. Travel times depend on traffic and the selected transportation method.
Buyers should compare unit size, building position, natural light, parking, storage, laundry access, renovations, and monthly fees. Due diligence should include reviewing the association’s finances, reserves, insurance coverage, recent projects, and responsibility for windows and mechanical components.
Marketing should emphasize the residence’s Old Town North location, off-street parking, storage, updates, condo-fee coverage, and access to trails and Metro. Because floor plans are compact, professional photography and accurate room measurements can help buyers understand the available living space.
